Advanced Controlling focuses on financial statement and financial ratio analysis in order to evaluate the performance of a firm.

The performance analysis is based on real world case studies from the automotive industry (Case 1: Volkswagen versus Porsche) and the garment and fast fashion industry (Case 2: Hennes & Mauritz (Sweden) versus Inditex (Spain).

Moreover, we will discuss topics of corporate social responsibility and sustainability reporting of firms. A documentary film addresses production conditions in Bangladesh, India and other "third world" countries and asks about the true cost of fast fashion.

Students read through the situation given in the case studies and identify the problem they are faced with. The next step is to perform the necessary business and financial analysis - examining the given qualitative and quantitative data, investing the causes, and considering alternative actions to come to a set of recommendations.
